Typically architects calculate their fees based on a percentage of the construction cost of the project, though this varies between architectural practices.
You will sometimes hear people say the architects fees are say 10-12% of the construction cost.
The idea behind this method of calculation is somehting like:
The size of a project is roughly represented by its cost, e.g. The larger the project is the more it will cost, and the larger the project the more effort (time) it will take the architect to deliver the service required.
In a high inflation invironment, a percentage-based fee will rise in line with inflation, even though the effort required may not change.
Similarly, if the client uses very expensive finishes or fixtures, the cost of the project will increase, as will the fee.
At OnlineArchitect we price our work based on the size of the project, including:
We think this is fairer way of pricing.
